Resources to support Water Industry Training Package (NWP07) implementation
Funding source
NSW DET Industry and Enterprise Skills Program
Project Background
The project is funded by New South Wales Department of Education and Training and the resources will be developed by Centre for Learning Innovation (CLI). The project is part of a broader industry strategy to address issues of the skills shortage including:
- An aging workforce, with strong replacement demand in the short to medium term.
- The impact of new technology and new, tighter, regulatory requirements.
- Issues of public health and water quality, which have come to the fore in recent years.
- Water conservation and critical water supply constraints.
Project Aims/Outcomes
This project seeks to develop resources in the water and wastewater collection distribution fields. The resources will be trailed as part of a pilot with TAFE and will assist trainers in providing work-based training programs for operators in the water and waste water industries.
- Assist the initial identification of current competencies and gaps;
- Allow the learner to show competence by completing workplace projects;
- Provide a mechanism for the learner to assemble evidence of competency
- Integrate recognition and fast-tracking processes, so that workers can gather evidence of current competency and fill skills gaps at the same time.
