The NSW U&E ITAB led a demonstration project for the Flexible Learning Industry Engagement framework with partners GlobalNET ICT, the Australian Rail Track Corporation and Electro Skills. It involved trialling the use of mobile phones to report and validate the on-the-job training and work experience undertaken by electrical apprentices.

In 2007 the NSW U&E ITAB was funded by NSW Department of Education & Training to undertake research to identify the current and future training needs of water operators in rural and regional NSW. The research also identified possible training solutions to meet those needs.
